News and Information

ARE YOU ON MEDICARE?

Open enrollment for Part D Prescription coverage and Medicare Advantage plans has closed but there are still a few options that allow you to make a change to your present  plan or enroll in one if you have not done so.

Did you receive a letter from Medicare Blue PPO telling you that they will no longer provide your Medicare insurance after January 1, 2013?

Are you having trouble paying for your prescription drugs or did your Part D premium go up?

Representatives from The Area VI Agency on Aging will be available to explain your options if you received a letter from Medicare Blue PPO telling you that they will no longer provide your Medicare insurance after January 1, 2013.  We will also help you understand your options regarding your Part D Prescription Drug plan.  It is very important to compare plans each year because companies make changes in formularies, co-payments, premiums and deductibles.  Just because you had a plan this year that had no deductible doesn't mean it will stay that way in 2013 and the same with covered drugs.  We will be scheduling appointments for 1-on-1 consultations to compare all the plans for you and see how yours compares.  If you choose to change plans we can do that right in the office.  We will also check eligibility for assistance programs and help with any other Medicare problems or questions you may have.
Call The Area VI Agency on Aging at 883-7284 for more information.

SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) is a statewide program which educates consumers on health care waste, fraud and abuse and also investigates and reports cases of waste, fraud or abuse.  Health care waste, fraud and abuse includes Medicare and Medicaid as well as private insurance companies.  If you are confused by your medical bills or if you suspect errors or fraud, please call the SMP Program at 1-800-266-4188.
If you are interested in becoming an SMP volunteer, please call 1-800-266-4188.  We have a need for trained volunteers to assist seniors with medical bills and questions.  We provide complete training.
