National Family Caregivers Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month!

https://www.caregiveraction.org/caregiverand Encourages you, the family caregiver, to celebrate the identities and passions that enrich your life.  Far too often your role as a family caregiver overshadows your identity and emphasizes the care you provide for your loved one.  Being a family caregiver is incredibly important, but it is critical not to lose sight of who you are.  Your sense of self makes your life complete.  This is an essential component of self-care that can ultimately prevent caregiver burnout and depression.

TIPS FOR FAMILY CAREGIVERS

  • Seek support from other caregivers.  You are not alone
  • Take care of your own health so that you can be strong enough to take care of your loved one
  • Accept offers of help and suggest specific things people can do to help you
  • Be open to new technologies that can help you care for your loved one
  • Watch out for signs of depression and don’t delay getting professional help when you need it
  • Caregiving is hard work so take respite breaks often
  • Organize medical information so it’s up to date and easy to find
  • Make sure Legal documents are in order
  • Learn how to communicate effectively with doctors
  • Give yourself credit for doing the best you can in one of the toughest jobs there is!

#CaregiverAnd is all about remembering the passions and identities that make you who you are.  This #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth (everyday) as family caregivers, it’s important to remember this.  National Family Caregivers Month honors all of you dedicated to providing care for your loved ones.
